Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Replacement for Women
Why am I losing my hair?
There are a number of reasons why women lose their hair. The most common condition we treat is female pattern hair loss. Many people think that only men suffer from genetic pattern hair loss, but 30-50% of women are affected by age 50.
Female pattern hair loss is a genetic trait passed down from one generation to the next. This gene can come from either the father or the mother. This type of hair loss can produce hair loss starting in the front hairline, crown, or both. This type of hair loss is progressive and can start as early as the late teen years or as late as the 40’s or 50’s.
Other potential causes of hair loss are stress, hormonal imbalance, and medical conditions, including thyroid condition, diabetes, and even obesity. These types of hair loss do not usually produce the “pattern” of either frontal or crown hair loss associated with genetic female pattern hair loss. Another type of hair loss seen in women is traction or tension induced alopecia. This is caused when an outside force such as a hair weave, clips, combs, or extensions pull on the hair so hard it causes the follicle to stop producing hair.
If your hair loss is in spots or patches, or comes on suddenly, it is probably not female pattern hair loss. Also, if your hair loss is complete, or becomes noticeably thin all over your head, it is not likely to be female pattern hair loss. If you suspect you have hair loss not associated with normal female pattern hair loss, you should consult with your family doctor or a dermatologist prior to seeing us for your free consultation.
What are my options if I’m suffering from hair loss?
We offer several proven solutions that will restore the confidence and active lifestyle so many people are seeking.
1. Our most popular solution is the hair system. It can be used by virtually all hair loss clients regardless of how much hair has been lost. A hair system is a method that integrates non-growing hair with your existing hair. A micro mesh or breathable skin membrane is injected with hair that matches the color and texture of your own hair exactly. The system is then semi-permanently attached to the areas of the scalp with hair loss. This new hair system can be cut and styled to the clients' exact specifications. This method is cost effective, low maintainance, natural, and allows for living the active lifestyle so many hair loss sufferers abandon because of their hair loss concerns.
2. Surgical hair transplants are also a popular method. This method moves hair that is genetically programmed to grow forever from the back of the head to the areas that have lost hair in the front, top, or crown. This is a surgical process done by an M.D.
This process is perfect for anyone that has enough donor hair to completely cover the areas that have lost hair. This process gives a totally natural look, as it is your own hair growing out of your head. Once the transplanted hair grows in, it will be shampooed, cut and styled just like it was before it was lost.
It is important to note that this is the most expensive process in terms of up-front cost. However, once completed, there are no on-going costs or abnormal maintenance. Also, it can only be done on clients that have minimal to moderate hair loss as the donor hair MUST come from the back of the client’s head and cannot come from family members or other people.
