It’s April! That means it’s getting hot in Texas, which means sweat, dirt, oil, and grease in your… pretty much constantly. The Texas heat can really put a beating on your hair. Mostly, your hair can dry out and become damaged to to the heat and dirt. But you can remedy that dry hair to prevent breaking, damage, and, of course, hair loss!
The first thing you want to pay attention to during the summer is over washing your hair. Think about something else you wash, like clothes. If you take a black t-shirt, and you wash it every single morning for 3 months, you’re going to end up with a damaged, stretched out, and probably more of a gray-ish shirt at the end of those 3 months. The same concept goes for your hair. If you wash it every single day, you’ll cause damage to your hair and could even cause hair loss. We recommend washing your hair every other day. Unless, of course, you end up in a mud pit somehow… then definitely wash your hair. Just be mindful of how often you wash it! Did you know some people only wash their hair once a week to keep it healthy?
Next, choose the right shampoo. There are shampoos for almost every type of hair, including thin, greasy, dry, etc. When you go shampoo shopping, pay attention to what kind you buy, read the bottles to figure out if it’s the right one for you, and then don’t use it every day because, remember, we aren’t washing our hair every single day this summer! Don’t be afraid to splurge a little when buying the right shampoo. It’s worth the cost!
Do you flat iron or curl your hair? Try turning the heat down when getting ready. High heat can already damage your hair, but then when you bake under the Texas sun, it causes even more damage than your hair tools. It’s also good to just braid it or go all natural some days to back off the heat a little bit. There are thousands of hair styles you can sport so you don’t damage those beautiful locks. Even taking colder showers can help keep your hair healthy when the heat is seemingly inescapable!
Finally… condition, condition, condition! Conditioners help moisturize your hair and your scalp. It’s like hair lotion! Again, make sure you buy the right conditioner for your hair, and don’t worry about spending a little extra. This is a huge factor in keeping your hair healthy and undamaged during the summer months!
